Kaymee Audio RFE-1

This is another Standmount DIY Loudspeakers Project as a result of great collaboration between the team of Kaymee Audio. 

Inspired by Ensemble PA-1 (which is my favorite Standmount Speaker). 

But unlike the original design, we use MicroPrecision Z130 Tex for Woofer (instead of Zellaton driver which is very difficult to find) and Scanspeak 9900 Tweter (instead of Hiquphon OW II) we also try to smooth out the front baffle in order to have less diffraction enclosure.

The All Indonesian DIY Collaboration

This time I will give my personal experience of DIY Collaboration between VD SIGNATURES, AMBITUS drivers and ANDA Amplifier.

The drivers came to me from a friend named David Karjadi which is the person who held The Indonesian Brand of Ambitus.

The specification quite good so I decided to make a DIY Loudspeaker together with Mr Fidy Purwoko of VD Signature. We have made some open baffle for midrange and tweeter in pyramid shape enclosure and for the  bass we decided to put the woofer in dual port bass reflex enclosure that tuned in 35Hz 

We made several test with various audiences the amplifier which being supported by  ANDA Amplifier (Blameless 2x100 and 2x150 watts per channel). ANDA in my opinion are clear, clean and powerful power amplifier with lots of headroom. The amplifier were made by Anistardi Sudikan and Daniel Suroyo (hence the name ANDA) and 100 percent made in Indonesia

We also use CD Player and Hires Source Player for the test using Sepanjang Jalan Kenangan CD from Sangaji recording and Lucky Sing Broery from Platinum recording. We also try Three Blind Mice Recording of Tatsuyoshi Yamashita Misty for the hires recording.

The combination of the system gave us solid staging and imaging and the proportional tonal balance and tonal accuracy. Almost every music we put on them could reproduce it beautifully with decent separation, spacious, but also neutral and musical. We were happy for the result of all Indonesian Audio Gears...

USACI Indonesia Qualifying Round 27-28 May 2017

These are some photographs of  USACI Contest that held in Jakarta 27-28 May 2017 which I appointed by USACI Indonesia as one of the Judge of Sound Quality 2way Free For All, Pro 80 and Expert Class... It was a fun contest with lots of beautiful sounding cars involved. The participants were very serious in term of technical matters (sound stage and imaging) also on tonal balance. The result was fair, honest and consistent and the best one win. Thank you for all participants for such a great passion! Kudos for all of you

The Aria-3D Sound

What is Stereo in 3D Sound?

Stereo over two loudspeakers works by creating a phantom acoustic scene between the loudspeakers.(http://www.linkwitzlab.com/The_Magic/The_Magic.htm)

3D sound, also known as spatial sound, is sound as we hear it naturally, and the technology behind recreating it is quite amazing. Sounds come from all directions and distances, and we're able to distinguish them by their pitch, tone, loudness, and location (http://www.electronicproducts.com/News/Surround_sound_vs_3D_sound.aspx)

Enter the interesting web based application called ARIA 3D https://www.aria3d.com/ that completely free, but allowed me to remind you that the application still experimental but very promising one in term of sound localization and 3D imaging.

What is 3D-Audio?

To put it simply: 3D-Audio is simulation of 3D-Sound.

How can one listen in 3D?

A 3D-Audio engine is a must (software or hardware), plus a set of sound producing devices.
To put it simply: With a 3D-Audio Engine and via Headphones or over Speakers.

 

I picked up the usual setup for this experiment such as:

The Hardware:
1. Asus Laptop with intel i7 and Windows 10
2. iFI Nano iDSD DAC 
3. Cayin Integrated Vaccum Tube A50T
4. Handy Cable and ATP Cable for RCA
5. Canare Cable for Loudspeakers
6. Kaymee AMT 1-S Stand mount loudspeakers

Since 3D Sound need proper setup thus I carefully matched the level of the speakers, put in on axis toward my left and my right ears and try to find the most accurate and balanced sweet spot between the two loudspeakers. Finally I chose the distance between loudspeaker only as narrow as 2 feet and the distance between me and the loudspeaker is only 3 feet (near field setup environment). FYI Aria-3D also gave us recommended setting for optimum result.

The Software:

Free Aria-3D Media Player on Google Chrome Browser(you can use your own music as long as you have been registered as user of ARIA-3D)

First I played their video and music demo and immediately got stunned because it really makes my two speakers in front of me sound like multi channel one. The sound is coming from behind the speakers, at the speakers, at the far left and far right and above or below the speakers especially on helicopter demo (video) and train demo (audio). But when I played some  ordinary recording especially commercial recording with multi miking and over dubbing the effect is less stunning.Then I tried to play some binaural HD recording from Chesky and Stax Binaural. This time the 3D effect sound just like wearing binaural headphone. So convincing that I try to check several times there is no one behind or beside me aaarrrrrrrgh! Depth of the stage, width of the stage and height of the stage are simply mind blowing.

Kaymee Audio AMT-1S The Bookshelf (Stand Mount) Loudspeakers

This is actually DIY Loudspeakers which has been built recently together between Kaymee Audio and me. The name of our collaboration is Kaymee Audio AMT-1S.

The Specification of Kaymee Audio AMT-1S
2-way speaker with magnesium cone woofer and Air Motion Transformer tweeter with a frequency response of 50Hs to 35Khz, a sensitivity of 90db 1w/1m 2.83 volts. The minimum power to drive them is 20 watts per channel while the max power is 250 watts RMS per channel

The Philosophy Behind Kaymee Audio AMT-1S

 The philosophy of AMT-1S actually has the same meaning as the word amities  

1. friendship; peaceful harmony.

2. mutual understanding and a peaceful relationship, especially between nations; peace; accord.

So this is the loudspeakers which build, listen and enjoy because of peaceful harmony and friendship around it.

We are very happy with the good result and the friendship among us

Thank you so much for the courtesy of our friend Moko Aguswan (he is one of the greatest sound engineer in Indonesia) who is willing to lend his apartment as  testing area of both Kaymee Audio AMT-1S and Ilusi Audio 211.  For 5 hours several songs from various genre has been played including the new song being mixed recently by Moko Aguswan and we we very happy for the result, the music was flowing, blooming and shining. In short you must listen it by yourself.
